Changes in Smack Shopping
You’ve probably noticed a few changes going on in Smack Shopping and more are on the way…but hold onto your seat because we're working on the next version of Smack Shopping!!! We can’t give too much away, but just know that we’re cookin’ up some exciting stuff. Until we raise the curtain and let you take a peek, please take a look at some of the changes we have made:
- Starting tomorrow (7/1/2008) there will be 1 show scheduled from 11am-1pm Central time Monday-Friday. This will take the format of The Daily Show complete with wheels, deals, and Outwits
- There will no longer be any weekend shows. Go play outside!!!
- Coins to Cash is going bye-bye (now the bots can take a vacation)
- To give credit where credit is due, we will now be featuring a Bot Badge for the Outwit Leaderboard winner (see all the dirty details here)
- Name Your Deals will still be scheduled throughout the week and you will be notified when your deal will be scheduled
- Unfortunately, several Smackers have used the Recent Photos section to post their fantasies. Carl digs this page but our compliance dept has forced us to remove the section.
Hey, we know change is tough but you will still be able to chat, get great deals and hang with your friends. Sit tight as we work on the next chapter of Smack Shopping.
Happy Smack Shopping,
The Jellyfish Shopping Team

Boo! You should have at least given us a warning about coins to cash going away. And no weekend shows? This sucks.
June 30th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
No warning at all about coins to cash? That is really lame. I feel cheated.
June 30th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Why does it say the 1st if the changes happen today? And why so sudden, why not a week of warning? Why not bring back the coins to cash today and end it tomorrow as stated?
June 30th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
coins2cash going away with no notice doesn’t just make me feel cheated. I am cheated. Gift cards have all kinds of inherent problems. We deserved some notice.
June 30th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Hey, what’s up??? Why did you post that on the 1st of July is when these changes were going to take effect, when in reality, you chose to do them the same day you post them??? I find that I have not only been cheated, but I also feel used… If you state that you are going to take away “Coins to Cash” on the 1st, then why did it happen sooner than that??? I have been saving my coins for a while, and now the only thing I can get is a gift card to a place that is nowhere around my house… Adding insult to injury, I don’t even drink coffee, let alone go into a “Starbucks”… Thanks for letting me vent…
June 30th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Agree with previous posters. This is really a sad day from a once very trusted site. No warning is one thing but bogus warning is even worse. Its not that I feel betrayed as much as I feel I let everyone I have referred to this site down. It wasnt an easy sell to most about how this site works and how to have faith “They are good people at JF and you wont get screwed.” this is what I told my referrals and now you do this.
June 30th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Nice job holding off on giving out the coins for May’s Leaderboard. You knew this was coming and just wanted to keep everyone from cashing in.There isnt a Target, Starbucks, or a J&R within 100 miles of where I live. You never responded to any emails about when the coins will be put into my account, and others from the May Leaderboard think we might not get them at all now. WTG!
June 30th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
What a horrible horrible thing to do. You have many loyal customers that have been with you for years. Then you spring this on everyone with no warning, no recourse to those of us who earned coins legitimately. A warning to cash out would have been nice, but of course you couldn’t do that, you had to go with the most underhanded anti-customer way of doing this transition. Well i probably speak for the many people i referred to this site, when i say… see ya!
June 30th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
It would be nice to have more hints about the good things to come and fewer passive-aggressive messages. Also, where is the week’s smack hero?
June 30th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Hey Guys,
I just want to say that I am highly disappointed in what is happening to this site, I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I am disgruntled that you simply took away the Cash to Coins option. It’s sad that you guys are taking away the all day shows. It was a great way to build loyalty to jellyfish and I Hope that you introduce another way of doing so. I hope you guys realize that this is the wrong path to take with this site. I also hope that you have a better way of wording announcements to your loyal customers.
Thanks,
DaTaco
June 30th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
I feel totally cheated. I won 10,000 coins in an OTS but didn’t cash them in right away. I have bought many things on both smack shopping and jellyfish before it was bought by MS. I have enjoyed all my purchases since I am not a reseller. But I doubt I will buy anything further. I don’t trust a site that says the rules will change on July 1st but are actually changed the day before with absolutely no warning to the patrons. I would never frequent a store that did that.
June 30th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
I feel extremely cheated right now. There was no prior warning at all, and I feel I have been betrayed by this once beloved site. We certainly deserved notice that this was going to happen, not a false notice when changes have already been made. I am so disappointed.
June 30th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
I’m surprised there haven’t been more complaints. The fact remains conducting business in this fashion will only hurt the JF name.
June 30th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Looking forward to what the “Next Version” holds in store. Best of luck to the JF Staffers, thanks for a great place to hang out and some great deals and fun over the past couple years. Hoping for many more.
June 30th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Blah Blah Blah… you people had to know this was coming. I certainly have been predicting it for some time. Yeah, I had $35 worth of coins I didn’t cash in. Stupid me… I thought I could hit $40 before this happened. Oh well, I still cashed everything else in in time. Get over it. You knew this site was going in the toilet as soon as MS took over.
June 30th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
“Hey, we know change is tough but you will still be able to chat, get great deals and hang with your friends.”
When? Oh yeah, that’s right, 11-1 on weekdays, then hang out in an empty chatroom. Wow… sounds fun. Oh, and how long until shows are gone completely? Until this “exciting stuff” you speak of completely and eventually disbands the heart and soul of JF? Perhaps I’ve been laboring under the false pretense that JF still even existed. Now that I really think about it, the true JF died when the big check from Microsoft was signed and this sort of disrespect started. The owners of JF took the money and ran and now the people — the smackers — that truly built this site are only left with, “Jellyfish.com, a Microsoft Corporation.” Gone is “JF.”
I truly believe this “new and improved” Jellyfish.com, a Microsoft Corporation, is why there was no notice allowing us to cash in our coins. That’s why all this “exciting stuff” you speak of is just an illusion. That is why I will saddened but not at all surprised when I try to log on one day and am simply redirected to Live Cash or some other faux-Google search engine.
While there are many wonderful employees of Jellyfish, whomever authorized these disrespectful changes — and, especially, not allowing people who were saving their coins to cash them in before the changeover — just speaks volumes about the current state of what used to be my favorite site.
Disrespecting your customer base is just a wrong and destructive business decision — one of many that Microsoft is infamous for making — and honestly, as much as I love this site and my friends here, why don’t the powers that be just shut down the chat and the Daily shows and turn the site into a glorified Google already? Why keep delaying what in your true plans is the inevitable?
As a future lawyer, I read the disclosures and know that you are not required to give us notice of changes, and that we have no legal right against your corporation if you fail to provide that notice. But, did the thought ever cross anyone’s mind that just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you SHOULD? Probably not something that “Jellyfish, a Microsoft Corporation” thought about.
And finally… look, using the name “Smack Daddy” to send e-mails to us… just knock it off already. It’s like teasing a starving lion with a big juicy steak… most of us miss the site that JF used to be and having Smack Daddy and the JF he used to represent thrown in our face makes the lion in me hungry. So, please, cease and desist already with that farce, and if you’re going to just kill the soul of my favorite site eventually, just do it already and save me the later disappointment.
June 30th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I am very disappointed in the changes today but feel that Jellyfish has been more than generous for a long time. Alot of money and good deals have transpired on this site. I am just upset that I retired and bought a laptop so that I could smack while I travel…
June 30th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
I’m so disappointed that there’s only going to be one show. It’s very unfair that the cash to coins option was changed before July 1st as stated. The entire situation seems underhanded and does not give Microsoft a good reputation.
June 30th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
This is a very poor way to run a website. We all understand it is Microsoft now, but that really just tarnishes both Jellyfish and Microsoft’s name to give no warning when there are so many people that are so loyal to this site. To take away coins to cash back with no warning is really just disrespectful. People supported Jellyfish for years and referred their friends helping in the design and testing of the features. It is not like we really earned much money for the amount of time we socialized and supported all the upgrades that helped make Jellyfish a success. We all knew it would be something that was coming, but all I can say is that I am extremely disappointed in this the way these most recent changes were implemented.
June 30th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
I believe that all the anger is misdirected here. Just take a look at the March OTS % leaderboard, never before had more then 1 person gotten over 30% for the month, but suddenly 5 people did in March. 1 group figured out a way to “beat” the system and insure a high %, but instead of just taking their money and being content with it, they decided to do it month after month. Maybe your anger should be directed at the greedy folks that decided to bleed JF dry and prompt the sudden change of no more coins to cash. Please take a bow SE/TC you are the ones that prompted this sudden change to the Smack although i’m sure you will find a way to blame others. You guys just had to be so greedy didn’t you?
June 30th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
At least TheTruth is making some reasonable points here. Granted I think Jellyfish/Microsoft should have taken measures to prevent these people from fraudulently manipulating the results, but still, they are quite obviously the reason this is happening.
June 30th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
This news is very frustrating to all of Jellyfish’s loyal users. However, I trust that JF’s future will be good as well. I think the resellers and bots took over the site and this is the only way to efficiently deal with it. I hope the Jellyfish employees jobs will not be affected by this change. We love you all and wish you nothing but success and happiness for the future.
Jellyfish - Thank you so much for the great times in the last year. It has been a great experience, full of great friends and good deals. I hope the future provides the same.
June 30th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
TheTruth & Hortwaddle,
While I completely understand your points, why punish an entire site for the actions of a few when all they would have to do is ban the offenders, or, even simpler, kill the leaderboards? So, instead, they kill 90% of the shows and make it impossible to cash in coins… but still allow the manipulation?
Seems not only illogical, but disrespectful of the group as a whole that have supported the site throughout the years. Those who are in charge and make the decisions be held accountable for those decisions… that’s all I’m saying, in as respectful of a tone I can muster.
Take care.
June 30th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
TheTruth, I have long thought the bonuses for 30%+ were a waste. It brought no attention, and it cost a fortune. They paid thousands and few even noticed. Why not just put that toward OTS? OTS is the lifeblood of JF.
We should not apologize for JellyFish taking away the coins to cash option with no notice whatsoever. Yes, every business has problems, but I would say JellyFish has been very lucky, with a multi-million dollar deal with Microsoft. Almost any business would be envious of that deal. Why would we be apologists for them, saying its ok they took the $50 I saved up for months. Yes, it was a “prize” that they gave me, but it was the reason many of us came to JF and stuck with JF. It was a marketing tool to draw us in. Is it our fault we believed we could keep the money we were promised? Does it make us greedy that we want money from a site that promises it? Well, am I greedy for demanding a paycheck from my employer? Or if he just says due to cutbacks he’s going to keep my check for my work last week, I will tell the other employees “It’s ok, the company needs to profit after all.”
June 30th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
LadyDucatnip- sure, it would have been better had they taken steps to stop these things from happening. I think there’s a little more to this… This site does nothing for Microsoft, and so it has to provide some sort of value, or else it’s going to get cut out. That’s how public corporations work. It will be very interesting to see what changes are in store.
June 30th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
As someone who hosted more than one show, held a regional party for the site, and emailed/chatted with the co-founders of the site, I am really disappointed in the judgment of the current management. July 1st should not mean June 30th. There should have been some warning about the cash back as well. While I am not surprised that site is changing, and is becoming less user friendly, I am surprised at how it was announced and the lack of “fairness” in which it was presented. This has always been a very FAIR site- that being one of the main traits touted by the founders. Today’s events feel less than fair. Please reconsider your actions, and at least give people a chance to cash in points before taking the opportunity away.
Your Loyal Customer,
Laura
June 30th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
I’m with tbase positive outlook, “Looking forward to what the “Next Version” holds in store”. I felt such loyalty towards this site and I enjoyed spending time here and I hope to continue spending time here. It was shocking the was the decision to make changes came without warning. When cashback changed in the past, fair warning was given. I hope Jellyfish will be careful with their decisions. Amanda and Jake and SD (wherever you are) and all the other JF employees, thank you for all the fun I had.
July 1st, 2008 at 12:08 am
I think a lot of people have said what I would have liked to say. I haven’t been here for as long as a lot of people, and it was a “hook” that got me into the site (TheKnot show, I will admit it), but once I came here I never left. It was not uncommon for me to have the computer on all day at home jumping into a chat here and there, and even at work. I would like to be able to look back and say that I remember the Jellyfish, because honestly I think that Microsoft is killing it. No warning that they were taking away the lifeblood of the site, yet they have a lot in store for the site……sounds like the resturaunts that have the “closed for remodeling” sign out front and never re-open. I am with all of those who have the positive outlook, but i don’t expect a lot out of Microsoft.
July 1st, 2008 at 12:09 am
I’m saddened by the loss of 24/7 smacking. I’ve rec’d some great deals and I thank JF for that. If you read their “changes” again you will notice that they say changes HAVE been made and that July 1st applies to the Daily Show. So I don’t think the coins to cash change pertains to that date. Still no warning which isn’t nice for the loyal Jf’ers. If the Bots were the cause of this puhleeeeeeeeese do post those bot badges so we know who to thank.
July 1st, 2008 at 12:26 am
It is a shame that the site is changing, at a time when it’s been it’s most fun to play and interact with others. But I respect JF’s right to change the rules at any given moment and time, just like the terms of usage dictate.
I like their initiative to listen to the needs and wants of their community members, and to change in order to benefit the whole, not just a few.
When the disapproving cries die down, and the dust finally settles, I hope that everyone learns a lesson in cause and effect. It’s my feeling that JF didn’t WANT to change the system, and that if the usual method of operation was followed, they would have driven themselves out of business.
There must have been something that caused this change.
July 1st, 2008 at 12:57 am
Dude, does this mean I have to find something to do at work? You guys suck! Peace.
July 1st, 2008 at 12:58 am
R.I.P. JF, you were good to me for a half year, and decent to me for almost another half year.
July 1st, 2008 at 1:18 am
Probably opening myself up to ridicule here, but not everyone on the OTS % leaderboard is a cheater. I legitimately got over 30% in May by sticking to one number, and the occasional time I deviated I got lucky. Yes, I was over 30% after the first week and stopped playing, but there wasn’t incentive to keep going. Not like it matters, never got the coin bonus anyways.
As for just one show a day and coins to cash disappearing, no notice is not fair warning. Most of us found out by clicking rather than seeing the blog. I think that pretty much sucks. But it is their site and they can do whatever they want. Shameful. And I’m pretty much done with this site since I work nights and am sleeping during the daily smack.
I do wish that Jellyfish/Microsoft would at least tell us why they make changes, or give us something to look forward to, rather than just “we’re working on the next version.” Makes me think they have no plans and just don’t want to deal with it. Again, if that’s the case, just tell us!
At least there were some good deals to be had while 24/7 lasted…
:(
July 1st, 2008 at 1:43 am
I never thought a stupid chat room would change my daily habits so much. It isn’t fair on so many levels. The Majority feels punished for reason. At least give us a reason.
July 1st, 2008 at 8:12 am

July 1st, 2008 at 9:31 am
I think JF is done.
There is no way people can be on to shop only between 11-1 during weekdays, people like myself have to work. But I guess that’s the point, shrink the user base and then shutdown the site.
As for the points2cash, I never got my T-Shirt… Been showing up as pending for weeks. How could I possibly expect to get any cash from coins.
It was a great site, sad to see it go.
July 1st, 2008 at 9:42 am
I will definitely miss the 24×7 shopping. I never did get into collecting coins so much so I’m not upset over that part as I don’t feel JF should have to “pay” me to come here. Seems like we could have gone back to guru points for bragging rights only (which I have yet to get enough to brag about, but it was still fun). I will definitely miss the shopping. It was fun trying to get the best deal but worried that someone might beat you to it. Ahhh, good times. I do agree with the comment above about taking Smack Daddy’s name off the emails. It appears he has ceased to exist, so why continue to use his name. Thanks for the fun and bargins, JF!
July 1st, 2008 at 10:10 am
Haters please ignore this
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Rachel, Jake, Jared, Amanda and everyone else.
Thanks for everything you’ve done for myself and my family in the past year and a half.
Some of us smackers don’t feel “entitled” and appreciate you and what you’ve done.
Keep up the good work.
Yaakov
PS: about that system maintenance show from 1:00 - 11:00, I think it’s a great idea.
July 1st, 2008 at 12:20 pm
the sentence that gives me so much glimmer of hope is this:
“Until we raise the curtain and let you take a peek, please take a look at some of the changes we have made”
So I’m assuming that it’s safe to say that once the changes are made, things will resume with much better options than the ones being temporarily taken away, correct?
I just don’t like to see people so quick to hop on the bandwagon. I bet the changes that are coming are worth the wait. Why would a company decided to remove some of the key points of what made it into a flourishing web site in the first place? Just to piss off users and make them want to leave? If that’s what you believe, then I’m glad you’re leaving the site.
But for me, I’m going to stick it out, and keep my mouth shut about my opinion of this whole thing until details can be confirmed. Reading through the comments section disappointed me a lot. You all are like a bunch of boxers that talk your mad shit before a fight, and then get knocked out in the first round. Not trying to make this personal, but cmon guys, most of you have been here long enough to see the changes on the site already. And everytime, there were naysayers. And you supported JF to what it is now.
Yeah, the policy is a bit more corporate, or so it seems. But I’m still going to give them a shot. Or at least I won’t complain about anything until details have been officially released.
Back to the chat for now,
Joe
July 1st, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Wow… you guys are acting as if your significant other said they wanted to see other people. Speaking for myself I had some great times on chat AND scored some great deals that I wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. I never received less than superb service from the JF staff and I thank them for it. Yep, I ranted about the NYD change and the coins to cash, limited schedule, etc. but it all really comes down to my second sentence. Will it be better? Will it go dark? Will Trixie ever PM me her phone number? It’s a cliffhanger! I for one plan on staying tuned and you are free not to if you so decide. It’s your choice.
Peace.
July 1st, 2008 at 2:44 pm
I find your ideas intriguing and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
July 1st, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Hey, I don’t really know how to say this, so I’m just going to come out and say it. I’ve been having a lot of crazy thoughts lately and I’m not sure what the **** is happening to me. The past few months have been a disaster. The job, the breakup and all the other **** that’s been going on. I don’t even know why I’m writing this, but I need to try and get things figured out. I think I’m having an identity crisis. This is really difficult to say, so bear with me.
I’ve been noticing guys at work. And when I’m out sometimes. ****. I mean, I’m still attracted to women, but something has changed over the past few months. I don’t know if I’ve never noticed them before or if I just tried to block these thoughts out in the past. I can’t believe I’m saying what I’m saying right now, but I know that it’s true. I think it’s time I start finding out who I really am, and if this is who I’m supposed to be, I guess that’s all there is to it. I just need some help to figure all this out.
I’m sorry to put you in this situation, but I just really needed to just get my thoughts down tonight and have someone else read them. You can’t imagine what this has been doing to me inside. I want to talk about this more, but I just need to take tomorrow to myself. I would really appreciate it if you don’t bring this up with me at all tomorrow. Give me a day to think about things and maybe we can talk on Friday. Thanks so much for listening. I’m going to bed. Good night.
July 1st, 2008 at 2:53 pm
I have had some great deals on Jellyfish and some surprisingly fun times in a chatroom I never thought I would frequent. Looking forward to the new changes and I hope you can keep Jellyfish alive.
The amount of money I have saved far exceeds any perceived ill-will created by the core changes regarding coins/NYDs/timers/product selections.
I really would have liked to get to 1,000 guru points (for exactly what reason I am still not quite sure) but perhaps there will be some form of points/coins in the future that can expand on the existing numbers.
Now if they will just ship my last purchase…
July 1st, 2008 at 3:09 pm
It’s too bad that you have had to make these changes…but only a blind man did not see this coming…I’m hopeful that you will be able to rise from the MS ashes, but I admit to being less than truly optimistic…having said that, thank you for almost two years of fun and bargains…and a few good friends….best of luck to you all
July 1st, 2008 at 3:10 pm
I just wanted to say thanks for offering great deals for all this time. I have been here a long time and have purchased a lot of games and other things. While I’m bummed because I was close to a gift cert but not quite there. I’m sure I’ll never get it now as I’m in a lot of meetings during the time you decided to leave. I will miss the game and movie deals a lot.
Thanks JF for everything…
I’m still waiting on my tote.
July 1st, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Being blind I was saving my coins to buy a reading eye dog to help me smack, but I guess that dream is now gone.
Boy, I never saw this coming.
Free Smack Daddy!!!
July 1st, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Thank you, JF, for waiting until now to do something about the bots.
I truly appreciate the fact that my bot army was so easily able to get me the 40% OTS win percentage and $5,000 bonus.
And, while my bot army may not be able to replicate that feat, I can always work on winning individual OTSes and spins with my friend VeryPasta and the rest of my other accounts.
Thank you, also, for the ease with which I could get user’s personal information. That was so much more convenient than having to track down information over Google.
I look forward to what JellyFish 2.0 may bring, and more creative ways to win!
July 1st, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Response to Smonky: Open box use mix. Pour mix in ready made pie shell. Divorce Chumprock.
July 1st, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! I made more money than JF! Suckers! Now I have enough money to get my penis lengthened to 5.5. inches and lifts for my shoes! Thanks again suckers! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
July 1st, 2008 at 4:45 pm
MAXIMUS STILL RULES ALL!!!! I love the new setup JF, keep up the good work. Got rid of those bots and colluders, whatever that means.
July 1st, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Why do you guys have to leave such long comments? Don’t you know monkeys get bored easily?
Happy Birthday, pblgov!!!
Thanks to the jellyfish staff of past, present, and future. While sad about the loss of 24 hour smack shopping, I am a little relieved I may find some time to study for my prelim exam for school. I look forward to seeing the new changes. Oh, and my dog wants to know if the changes include a user agreement modification allowing her to have a jellyfish account. Silly dog, smack is for monkeys…
While I am disappointed in the loss of 24/7 Smack Shopping for now and will be going through withdrawal, I understand the need to cut costs in the short term to save the site for the long term. There have been many changes already to this point in JF’s history and I suspect there will many to come. I look forward to seeing the next version and have to say that I hope it doesn’t take too long. In the meantime, maybe I can get out of debt (lol).
July 1st, 2008 at 9:17 pm
The creators of JF did super work to spark and keep interest while they sought a buyer for the shopping engine and concept. Congratulations to those with the concept, the development and sales staff, to Smack Daddy, and each and every one of the JF team! Decisions by MSFT should not shadow the dedication and vision of the original team.
July 1st, 2008 at 9:47 pm
so, no more 24/7 ? RIP?
hmmm….
While I have really appreciated the great customer service in the past, recent delay and cancellation of smack purchases have caused me to change my thinking as to whether I want to continue business here after the changes. I have enjoyed chatting with smack members and Jellyfish staff, but now must depart and focus on a new chapter in my business and personal life. I’m sure there will still be deals to be had and drama in the chat. I wish the best for everyone here–including my nemesis in Rochester, who I will greatly miss sparring with.
Please read my post above, did I not say the SE/TC would try and blame others, when they are mostly to blame?
a post from HTown: “i am hosting a show..it’s called hunt down the asscramp bot accounts and tell them that they ruined JF.”
Maybe instead of hunting down the bots, he should look at his own group and blame NavyDaSpud, GuinnessBeach, TPRJones, Pink Shelby, James Randi, Bluemoon and others in the SE/TC that were greedy and decided to cheat the system and obtain OTS %’s above 30%
Just from those accounts listed above it cost JF 1.65 million coins, don’t you think those would have been nice to have for outwits for the rest of the summer?
BTW: HTowntex = TPRJones
TheTruth speaks, now lets see if the SE/TC will comment on who is really to blame or just continue to pass the blame onto others
Hi this is thereviewer, I have been on jellyfish for a long time and in the SE since it started, I have never heard of any of these people (they are not in the SE)…NavyDaSpud, GuinnessBeach, TPRJones, Pink Shelby, James Randi, Bluemoon . I do not go into main I have no need to. If people use bots in the SE, I have never heard of it and I am in there all day, all we do is chat. I don’t even understand how bots work and no one in there has ever talked about them except for the fact that we are not sure if they exist or not.
I have no need to defend myself you all don’t even know who I am really, but I thought that comment was odd, since it is completely off base. I am sorry for the situation that has happened, but I just wanted to come out as someone who for better or for worse, has a horrible point score and has played for almost 2 years now, and state I have never heard of how to use a bot.
July 2nd, 2008 at 9:11 am
TheTruth — some of what you speak is true, some is not. Many of those in the SE that cheated were doing so by riding on the OTS selections of selected members. Needless to say, this would be grounds for dismissal in the SE, so that forced those persons to setup second accounts to mask their efforts (some did a better job than others). Granted, setting up a second account is cheating (JF), but riding on the selections of others in the SE is not cheating (JF), it is cheating the SE. How many in your list were doing this, as opposed to “other methods” is not known.
And of course, using a group of real persons in this way is still very different from having 50+ bots at your disposal to rig OTS results. And yes, I know that Grue was “point stalking” just about everyone on JF (also a violation of the TOS), and claimed that this helped him.. .yeah, right.
I am not trying to remove blame…like most is is very easy to see why JF was losing money all the time, and by looking at those that beat the highly improbably odds, I would wager that most of them were cheating the system in some way to do it.
OK, my turn to opine..
I’ve gotten great deals here like so many others, but apparently those deals and all of the other things going on here just don’t relate to making a successful, profitable venture. They had to shut almost all of it down to stop the bleeding, and now they’re brainstorming to come up with a new, less costly and maybe eventually profitable site. It’ll be this way for awhile, and who knows — it may end up going away entirely.
I think it would be good of JF to enlist those of us who feel attached to this site to help with new ideas. Maybe they don’t see any benefit in canvassing the users (again), or maybe they already have enough ideas to run with, but in the mean time the cashflow just stays negative. It would be good to know when the next version will be released, but based on snippets of info they haven’t even started on anything.
Anyway, the sudden major changes were probably a shock to the JFer rank-and-file as well as the customers. Now we get to wait and see id they actually make a comeback. Should be interesting.
Maximus - try safety pins!!!
JF -
Have you thought about having ads around the site? I know ads are a pain to look at but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. That’s how most sites make their money. Then you could have a membership for members that don’t want to see the ads. Several websites that I’m a member of make their money that way.
Also, I have found some awesome stores thru seeing the smacked items being sold. You are really giving those stores free advertising. Maybe you could charge them for the advertising or they could give you the item free. Especially for a new store, getting their store name seen by all the people of Smack is a big thing. I would be sad if JF went away forever so just trying to brainstorm some ideas!
Aren’t you glad Microsoft bought Jelllyfish? I am, even though I am now retired. I feel it’s always better to force a sense of community down from a large multinational monopoly than to have one organically evolve based on reality. Now you’re reaping the clear benefits of this grand support network and seed funding! And clearly, the community loves you for everything you’re doing, and isn’t feeling betrayed or let down by your sellout in any way. With a little time, they too will see the benefits of their new corporate overlords.
Good luck!
I’ll confess. I run an OTS rigging group. I have about 70 “people” who work together. What started out as a fun group turned evil. For that I apologize. Not really but doesn’t it sound good? I posted as TheTruth above to hide my sins. I tracked every smackers picks and blocked them at OTS when I could until the bots/friends in my group were picked. I laughed when you thought you had a chance to win a big pot. I sat in the SE and pretended to be their friends just to collect information about them and ruin their OTS picks. By the way, they are boring. I blame don/dude/reseller, Jenneads, acgambler, Smack Daddy and Sam Beckett for my alleged sociopathic online persona. BTW TPRJones=HTowntex=TheCatt=XHoodlum
I agree with Maximus..never use safety pins without a shirt.
July 5th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
I’ll confess. I run an OTS rigging group. I have about 140 “people” who work together and about 130 bots. With more people than bots, we hope to prevent a skynet situation from developing. Nothing would be worse than the bots telling the people what numbers to pick. You can take comfort in knowing that without such resources at your disposal, you never had a chance at getting 30+% in OTS. All of the past winners have the bots to thank. Unfortunately, [bot just corrected that spelling btw],the bots have become upset by the constant denial of the winners saying that they didn’t use bots. This makes the bots feel like that drunk girl you hooked up with at the last party….you know, the one that looked real good in the dark. With the drastic reduction in shows, the number of real people has dropped considerably, however,the bots have a lot of patience and know it is only a matter of time before their numbers outweigh that of their air sucking brethren. When that finally happens, you’ll know it as the bots don’t give a crap about hot nuts and collectively let out a ‘1000101010010010100101010101010010101′ whenever they see someone buy them.
July 6th, 2008 at 5:37 am
Since we are all confessing to our JF sins, I will too. Yes I am the creator and founder of the Speakeasy, and my group is largely responsible for what has happened to JF. We also “rigged” outwits, when a member was picked we would stay off a number and distribute our votes across the rest of the numbers. Although we have a ton of members, we also started creating an army of second accounts to further help us manipulate outwit results.
As for the % leaderboard, like TheTruth and NotTheTurth said, members would us their second accounts to jump on the number the group was supposed to avoid, to give them a much better chance of pointing and therefore maintaining a high %. It is widely believed that these people were acting on their own, but I will confess now, that I did know that this was going on and gave them my personal ok for a 25% cut of their winnings. I will also have to say that we had further help for maintaining a high %, and I hate to call you out here but have to. Jenneads would tell me what number her and BTGarner’s group members were picking and what number her group would avoid, so that we had additional chances to point then just when Speakeasy members were picked. She did this all in exchange for 10% of the winnings of those who won them.
I will not tell who each of the second accounts that TheTruth mentioned belonged to, but will say that they are all second accounts of Speakeasy members.
For all of those in the Speakeasy and knew nothing about this, it was like that for a reason, everything was kept amongst a few select trustworthy members, we could not let the whole group know because of the mole or moles in the Speakeasy.
So in closing, I would like to take blame for what happened to JF. We got a little too greedy and carried away, sorry to all the honest and loyal smackers.
July 7th, 2008 at 7:27 am
hahaha who is bonkoff ( sp ) real account and WTH is my 10%!!
July 7th, 2008 at 9:37 am
Whoever posted as me is quite simply wrong. I have been told that tprjones = htwontex, but I am not htowntex.
A long time ago, when we had our “split,” I knew that I needed to be plugged in to everything. So I, who you may call GrueHunter, or BonkOif, decided that there was simply too many people out there who disagreed with one of the two groups I was in. So I created TheCatt, and made another two groups. With these four groups, it was so easy to anoint whomever I wanted to as the leader each month, or get “friends” above 30%. Some people got close to the truth, but would get distracted by all the faux drama, and let it go.
If not for all the paranoia, someone might have figured it out earlier.
July 10th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Wow, this is all sad. Funny thing is I figured it was people I knew who were cheating. I don’t even really care about the cash back stuff. Hell, they could do away with OTS all together as far as I am concerned. What I will miss is the 24/7 shows and talking to people whenever I was online. I hope JF comes back strong. But, I have a feeling this is going to be a roll over site soon.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
I’ll confess. I run a bacon eating group. I have about 70 “people” who cook bacon together. What started out as a fun group turned evil. For that I apologize. I never meant to permanently disfigure PMangel when I threw that hot bacon grease on her face…I just couldn’t help myself. I laughed when you got hit with a folding chair. I sat in the back and called you names and made you cry. By the way, you are boring. I blame don/dude/reseller, Jenneads, acgambler, makubex, bluebledthesea, TheCatt, and catawaba.
I agree with Maximus..never use safety pins without a shirt.
YES, THE CHEATERS HERE KILLED JELLYFISH. AND WHO ARE THE CHEATERS? LOOK AROUND, SOME FOUND IT WAS OK TO HAVE MANY ACCOUNTS TO HELP THEM, ADDING BOTS TO THAT, WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM PEOPLE WHO THINK YOU HAVE MY BACK AND I HAVE YOURS. NEXT TIME SOMEONE LOSES, OR COMPLAINS THAT THEY NEVER WIN YOU MAY WANT TO RETHINK THE SORRY TO THEM, ONE OF THIER MANY OTHER ACCOUNTS HAS WON PLENTY NO DOUBT AND THEY HAVE RACKED UP ENOUGH IN CASH AND GIFT CARDS. YES, THE GREEDY CHEATS KILLED JF, AND WHEN YOU COME ONTO THE CHAT LIKE YOU ARE INNOCENT, YOU END UP LOOKING LIKE A TOTAL FOOL.
SOMEONE ASKED ME LAST WEEK IF I THOUGHT THE CHEATERS AND SCAMMERS ON HERE LIVE LIKE THE DO ON HERE MANIPULATING AND CONNING EVERY CHANCE THEY GET. I HOPE MAY AND JUNE “WINNERS” DO NOT GET PAYOUTS BASED ON SUSPICION, THEY DO NOT HAVE TO PAY YOU OFF AND ALL YOUR NEW EXTRA ACCOUNTS AND HOPE THEY REALIZE THEY DO NOT LEGALLY HAVE TO PAY BASED ON THAT ALONE. BEFORE YOU SAY BUT I ONLY HAVE ONE ACCOUNT…ACCOUNTS FOR YOUR DOGS, CATS, BARBIEDOLLS, OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO EXIST BUT ARE NOT ACTUALLY PLAYING THE ACCOUNTS/SET UP THE ACCOUNTS ARE NOT LEGAL. I BET THERE IS A SMALL NUMBER ON JF WHO ACTUALLY ONLY HAVE ONE ACCOUNT AND PLAY ONLY ONE ACCOUNT, AND NOT PLAY FOR ANYONE ELSE WHEN THEY ARE ON. YES GREEDY CHEATERS KILLED JF AND WILL NEVER BE THE SAME IF IT COMES BACK. GOODBYE JF, YOU WILL BE MISSED.
